LED brake / turn signal / running light / meter light conversion by
Written by obijuanak on 4/12/2011 at 09:51 pm

Douglas,

The definitive treatise on converting to (effective) LEDs was written a few
years ago by Kevin Quosig, former PC rider.

If you search the archives for either his name or Red Dwarf (his bike) you will
find that he went to great lengths and expense to make a full LED conversion. It
was not cheap, but the results were spectacular.

Have fun!

Juan

thinking... How much would it cost? Which bulbs would I need to buy? How many
watts would I really save? Would I become orders of magnitude cooler?

a standard operating condition (low beams, engine running, kick stand up, no
turn signal or brakes activated) and 144 watts in a maximum usage condition
(high beams, engine stopped, kick stand down, bike in neutral, hazard flasher
mod installed and in use, brakes on). The total cost of converting all
incandescent lights (except the headlight) to LED is $158.26 including shipping
to the USA. I figure it'd be another $50 (roughly) to put an electronic flasher
unit in place of the turn signal and position switch relays currently on the
89-96 PC800s. So for roughly $200, you could convert your bike to run on LEDs
and save 38 watts riding down the street AND be the coolest IPCRCer in your
area.

fuel injection project. This is due to the cost of the conversion. Once the
fuel injection project is done, I will either do the LED conversion right away
if I am short on watts or will do it once I have saved up money for more
PC-related projects.

analysis? Are any of my figures or part numbers wrong? Did I find the correct
seller on E-Bay for the type of LED lights people have been using lately?
