front brakes are a real drag
Written by douglasvanb on 5/29/2011 at 08:46 pm

Coasters,

Last week I put a new set of rubber on my wheels. Since then, the front brakes
(both sides) have been dragging. I've tried re-seating the front wheel several
times. I've also tried cracking the banjo bolts to see if any air bubbles come
out. It appears to me that the calipers are failing to retract properly. The
brake lever for the last few months has been sometimes a tad mushy where I will
pull it a couple of times when I first hop on the bike to bring back the strong
feeling. I suspect that might be related.

I believe that I need to rebuild the brake calipers and master cylinder. Is
there any compelling reason to not get the Honda OEM rebuild kit?

Also, has anyone put braided steel brake lines on lately? I have links for the
following:
http://gandjaircraft.net
http://spieglerusa.com/
http://www.galferusa.com/
and http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ipcrc/message/92604

Are any of those companies preferred over another? I saw that Spiegler produces
brake lines that can be DOT certified. Are steel lines really the bees knees or
should I just replace the old lines with new rubber lines from Honda?

Cheers,

Douglas
