final drive
Written by ymibhdu on 12/3/2011 at 07:36 pm

I did the swap myself. It isn't that hard to do, with two caveats.

Not sure if this was unusual, but I had to swap a plastic ring from the
perimeter of the PC final drive onto the VT1100 drive. The one on my ebay
purchase was a different shape. Four machine screws and a minute or so.

The think that made mine a pain was I managed to pull the driveshaft out of the
universal joint at the swingarm pivot. Had I not done that it would have been a
half hour job in total. Frustration with not being able to line up the splines
stretched it into a two hour, two person project. The VT drive came with a
driveshaft in my purchase, but you want to use the one already in your bike.
Don't pull the PC driveshaft, it isn't necessary.

Other than that, I have been totally happy with the swap on my otherwise
mechanically stock PC. Loses a little (more) off the line, but the gearing
change seems to hit the sweet spot with my riding cadence/speeds.

YMMV, of course, although mine actually improved.

what should I be searching for if I decide to do this mod down the road?

thing to check is that it connects via 4 bolts.
