Save a watt - converting incandescents to LED
Written by douglasvanb on 11/25/2009 at 08:13 am
Now that my tire is ordered and on the way it's time for my first farkle
purchase...
This evening while riding back to town after a 60 mile jaunt I got rather cold.
38 degrees is no bueno on the hands and torso. (and yes I do have cold weather
gear. I'm just a wimp.) Knowing that my 89 Ghost doesn't have all the power in
the world I realize that before I can get a Gerbing jacket liner and Gerbing
gloves I need to find a few watts to spare.
The obvious location to shave off some wattage is in the incandescent bulbs.
Through some Google-fu I read the old posts on what people have done in the
past. Frankly I'm not convinced that us PC800 folks need to throw in a 50 watt
resistor to get LEDs in our brake lights. If we can get electronic turn signal
boxes, why not for the brake lights?
My question for the group: what products do you know of to help convert over a
PC800 to complete LED (or other energy-saving measures) to save as many watts as
possible?
Thanks!
