Pumping the brake wears on the master cylinder piston and seals. This is
aggravated by the lack of lubricant in the form of brake fluid. Using a
vacuum bleeder eliminates this problem. How much difference in wear is
hard to say, and the price of the bleeder may well equal a master
cylinder rebuild.

It sometimes happens when you drain a hydraulic system that the M/C will
become air bound, pockets of air prevent fluid from entering the system.
In the rare event that that happens, you will have to disconnect the
lines from the M/C t bledd it first, then re connect (With new seals)
and finish bleeding the system.

Yes provided you remember to shut the bleeder valve before pumping, as
GK advised, and dispose of the fluid in an environmentally sound manner.
