PC800: Brake Fluid Replacement
Written by rahardy@juno.com (Richard A Hardy) on 8/5/1997 at 04:06 pm

Hi Guys;

I'm about to replace the brake fluid in my PC800 and I have a
couple questions I hope someone can help me with. Years ago, when
changing the fluid on a car, I simply ran some zygon tubing into a jar of
fluid, had someone pump the brakes until there were no more bubbles, then
tightened the bleeder valve. I read somewhere that you should have a
vacuum pump to do this job, i.e., suck the fluid out instead of "pushing"
it out. Question: Is there any reason *not* to use the tube & jar
method?

I intend to simply loosen and pump out through the bleeder valve.
But, I also have a vague recollection from some source that the hose
from the master cylinder should be disconnected from the brake and the
fluid pumped out there. I see no reason for this, but I'd appreciate
hearing from someone that has done the job. So, my second question is:
Is it OK to empty the old fluid by pumping it out the bleeder fitting
with the brake lever?

Thanks in advance for your help.
