Mr. Hyde's engine runs again!
Written by spacetiger_j... on 4/10/2011 at 07:50 pm

It has been many months since I brought this bike home. It was involved in an
accident with a rider from this site. The front end was messed up and there
were no brakes. This rider was selling the bike but got no takers, until I saw
it.

Having completed a front end swap on my other PC (Dr. Jekyll), I had most of the
necessary parts to complete a functional bike. I got a seat (that needs
recovering) + shocks and tripple tree from martechy (Thanks Monica; and no, I do
not need the wiring harness). I was able to piece together a rolling naked PC -
but I had not started it yet.

Today was the day the I was going to find out if it would run. I cleaned the
carbs (they needed it) and put them back on, charged up a battery, added gas,
hooked up all the electrical connections, and checked the oil. I first cranked
the engine to see the condition of the gas coming through the lines. After it
checked out okay, I hooked up the fuel lines and cranked. It coughed, but soon
fired up. After fiddling with it a bit while it idled, I could get it to idle
on its on - see pics. Amazing after about 3 years, it still can run.

Now That I have done this, it is time to pull the engine out of the frame. I
know it runs (with no smoke!) so it is a good engine. It has less than 20K
miles on her. After the engine is out, I can measure and see all of the
necessary things I'll need to make the VT1100 engine fit. Once I get the engine
in, I'll fab up the new exhaust system and rejet the carbs. Then, I will have
to fab brackets for the small radiator and mod the chin plastic to accomidate
the small radiator. Easy Peaszy I'm sure.

I'll post updates on the progress of Mr. Hyde. If this works out, I'll have a
96 PC engine for sale. with less than 20K.

Jerry
