Extra lights on the crashbars?
Written by mikeyb_houtex on 4/11/2011 at 01:35 am

There aren't any legal issues as the ones that I'm using are really the same as
the ones on trucks... Marker lights, in effect.

I don't know why anyone would think undercarriage lights would be a bad thing...
anything that gets you noticed in traffic at night is a GOOD thing, IMO.

Although a really jerk cop could possibly argue about not having the ends of the
trunk strips be red instead of yellow, but that's what the trunk lights are for,
I think, with the red reflectors in the turn signals.

At least... in Texas, that is. Be nice if we had a national standard instead of
the hodge-podge of state rules. although, I don't think I'd be much for the
tint rules that might get put in place... hm, quandry.

I read in another post about the turn signal circuitry, so that argument is now
apparently moot, as the turn signal systems aren't dependent on the resistance
of the lights to blink correctly, like a car's does.

of LEDs on the bike or by using amber, do you get around those problems? I know
in Oregon that I can't put on undercarriage lights but I'm not sure about other
sorts of additional lights... The state laws are a bit vague on that here.

something like an Arduino could replace the stock unit and would then be able to
support LEDs. However, I haven't done it yet because 1) I'm busy with other
projects 2) the last time I checked, I wasn't satisfied with the LED bulb
replacement options and 3) I'm not sure how well an Arduino would hold up in the
working environment of a PC800. Maybe there is an automotive shield available
for the Arduino? It would be a very interesting experiment...
