#@!#$# oil leaks!
Written by douglasvanb on 5/10/2011 at 10:40 pm

It's a 1989 with something like 55k miles on the odometer. Unless something
catastrophic happened since the last time I had all the plastics off, it
shouldn't be leaking from the top gasket. Last year the sift seal leaked and
made it look like just about every other seal might be leaking. The wind tends
to blow oil around a bit. I've already tried tightening the oil filter, FWIW.

Cheers,

Douglas

entire cylinder walls so if there are other leaks, they are nearly impossible to
find. I had a friend help me just tear down the engine and pretty much replace
all the gaskets and seals. It was about 3 weeks total, but we weren't exactly
working on it everyday.

"less-winter" in Oregon. I've been monitoring a small oil leak on my '89 PC for
the last month or two. It was holding steady at a drop or two after every ride
but now it seems to be picking up the pace. Last year I replaced just about
every oil seal on the bike before I found last year's oil leak (it was the
shifter rod seal). Hopefully this weekend I'll have time to take the tupperwear
off and start looking for the source of the leak.
