I have a VIP trunk and looking for a mounting rackWritten by docpolycarp on 5/20/2011 at 09:22 pmDo you have an OEM passenger backrest? If so, I figured out a cheap quick
mounting rack for a Givi mounting plate that should also work for your trunk.
Get two 10 in. x 1-1⁄4 corner braces at someplace like Tractor Supply:

er-brace-without-screws-zinc-plated-10-in-x-1-1-frasl-4-in--3540415You'll need to put each in a vice and bend them with a small sledge hammer so
that the angle is less than 90* to match the angle of the rear bracket of the
OEM passenger backrest to the top of the PC trunk. Then bend the arm so the
mounting holes of the top of the corner brace arm are parallel with top of the
trunk. Cut off the upper arm level with the top of the rear OEM passenger
backrest bracket. The mounting will be similar to the old Reid Rack, see the
ipcrc file photo in the Files section, subfile Accessories, scroll down to
ReidRackMountView.jpg
These braces are stout. I put them in my vice individually and hung 50lbs on
each one, and they only bent approx 3/8inch.
I'm going to bolt a metal plate to the corner brace arms and mount the Givi E250
mounting plate to that.
If the Reid Rack was functional, this set up should be no less so.
I'll post photos when I get it done. I found a Givi Maxia 52 on Craigslist this
week for $75, and I have to order the Givi E250 mounting plate.
