I have a VIP trunk and looking for a mounting rackWritten by swiftly1... on 5/21/2011 at 03:02 amI have a rack from a member that bolts onto the same area as the backrest. It
doesn't add anything to the load on the backrest. My VIP trunk mounts on that
rack. I'm not sure if he is still making the rack.

Thanks Dick. In searching the archives about the Reid Rack, I saw some
reservations expressed about using the OEM backrest as an anchor point for a
luggage rack, but I had not seen anything about actual failure. I wonder if
there would be any way to reinforce the two welds, or transfer weight off them
to the frame under the trunk? The trunk "duckbill" doesn't seem to rest directly
on the frame tube underneath it, but I have not taken off that part of the trunk
lid to examine it.
