Not all of the valve stem is steel, the rubber donut seals it against the rim
and can crack so they still need to be replaced every few years. Make sure you
have the plastic wheel guides for the stems also because without them the stem
can vibrate and crack. A little ArmorAll or grease on the stem once in a while
can't hurt either.
