HELP!! No clutch
Written by goldwingman40 on 6/9/2011 at 04:43 am

Mike,
You DO NOT DRAIN the system or you will probably have trouble getting the air
out of the system. If you don't know how to bleed the system find someone that
knows how to help you. You can suck the fluid out of the resevoir and then soak
up the remaining liquid in the resevoir
with a paper towel and then refill the resevoir with clean fluid and bleed it
thru out the bottom. DO NOT REVERSE BLEED the system from the bottom up as you
will push the crud in the slave cylinder back up into the system.
That was not water on the top in the resevoir because the fluid is lighter than
water and floats on top of the water if it is present.

off the top layer before I closed it up. I know I should probably drain and
refill and I plan on doing that on when I do the oil change in 2000 miles.
Untill then I will keep an eye on it to see if there is a leak. Keeping my
fingers crossed, lol.

cipe it out? If you didnt I would suck the fluid out of the resevoir and wipe it
out and refill it. With either condition I would bleed clean fluid thru the
system when you get the time. Any bike that runs low on fluid, unless there is a
big leak, has probably been neglected as to preventive maintenance and both the
clutch and brake systems have not been bleed every two years like they should be
to prevent the build up of moisture in the system.

clutch lever is a reservoir that holds brake fluid to drive the clutch. I am
pretty sure if you look through the sight glass on it, you will see that it is
low or empty.

Carefully replace the cover and pump the clutch until hopefully it starts
working.

However, there is a reason why the fluid is gone. Unless you are really
incredibly lucky and the new fluid swells the seal that was leaking and you just
happened to get the air out of it, you will likely have to deal with the slave
cylinder. Not sure someone with no mechanical ability would want to tackle that.
I haven't done it yet on a PC so I don't have any idea how difficult or easy it
is to get at and rebuild.

close eye on the sight glass so you can see how fast it is leaking. Don't let
the fluid get below the low mark. If you have to add again soon, you probably
should take it to a mechanic and get it fixed.

with only 10,100 total miles my cluth is gone. Was taking it out for a spin and
when I squeezed the clutch control and dropped it from neutral to 1st it bucked
and died. Tries again, same result. It doesn't have the same resistance when I
squeeze it, actually feels like none at all, so do I assume it is the clutch
cable? I looked thru the archived files and found clutch R&R but no mention of
cable. I have the mechanical ability of the average housewife (no offense
ladies!) so I need help. PLEASE ADVISE!!!
