My legs are too hot!
Written by alfr4d on 6/13/2011 at 12:49 pm

In addition to the answer of that there really are fairing wind deflectors for
sale in any size and shape it is perhaps beneficial to discuss the possibility
that an engine runs hot and is uncomfortable to its rider because of a lean
mixture. In such a case it can even melt the metal of the piston in the process
of combustion. Does anybody have any thoughts? Do compare your bike with others
on heat issues and check if the engine runs well or has loud muffler noises that
are mostly significant to very lean conditions or perhaps a leak in the air
filter or missing metal filter right underneath it or a hole in the exhaust
system that would run the engine more lean. Are there any performance issues and
the engine is too hot, then it is advisable not to drill any holes for just the
deflectors but have it technically checked and adjusted. I have also seen people
break away parts of the insulation round the engine in order to repair the
cam-plug oil leak without taking things apart. I can imagine this lack of
insulation also causes heat problems. I have read before of certain serious
discomfort where other riders do not experience any issues. When this does not
apply to your situation you may install the switch for turning on the fan
manually and sooner as necessary when driving very slow. Also clean the
radiator, best performed from inside out but do not let it get very dirty at
front anyway. Riding the bike, the hand of the temperature gauge must be there
only just over the long line. There is this problem however from thermostats not
opening and closing anymore. Stuck in the middle. It is difficult to get to the
part in order to check and replace. It may then be a case of enough cooling when
riding but not enough when slowing down and more coolant is needed to run
through. The temperature gauge goes disproportionately to the right when it
senses more heat for alarming the rider but should not go to the red in any way
or it indicates cooling issues. Again, ride and compare with other people. The
regulator has a small contribution to the heat and is more hot when charging the
battery and producing much electricity. When it is hot for you riding through
town and stopping often you may then also prohibit the draining of the battery
by making a headlight switch like I did and checking the condition of the
battery is always a good idea. Replace the battery when it has to be charged
constantly. I ones tried to ride without the two small panels under the
handlebar in hot summer weather. I saw small things coming through the gap and
could imagine it worked just like a vent. It also should decrease the suction
power from the sides a fraction. Easy enough to try but it will not make you
feel more cool. Push the right small panel out smart, feeling the plastic pin
from underneath with your finger. Let us know if you still have the bike 2;).
