Spark Plug Socket Extension tool
Written by obijuanak on 9/1/2011 at 05:24 pm

Ironhorse?.

In Honda-speak, the middle three letters refer to the specific model. In this
case, MR5 is the PC800 (not sure what MY1 is). The last few numbers indicate
the version number. So 870 superseded 830. So it was either slightly improved,
changed suppliers or something like that. It is not just a straight plug
wrench, it has a hex rod so you can turn it with one of the closed wrenches, and
it has a semi-flexible joint so you can reach, if memory serves, the front right
plug.

However, I have done it with a deep-well, thin-wall socket and a universal joint
with no ill effects to the plug well insert.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

plug heads, I just ground down a deep-well plug socket. [Gotta luv Harbor
Freight!] I don't mind buying the Honda tool, but if it is just a piece of
stamped&welded sheetmetal like most of their C-a-S toolkit plug wrenches have
been over the decades, I'd rather spend the $8 and a little time on the grinder
making my own forged socket that doesn't require any special connection to the
ratchet wrench... it looks plenty ugly, but works beautifully, & is less likely
to "spring" & strip off the sparkplug flats...
