Rattle can paint that may be as good as shooting with a gun
Written by skyeenter on 9/6/2011 at 04:30 pm

Fred, I used 2 cans of the NH251P base coat, and 2 cans of mid coat. The pearls
in the mid are of a finer grade of flecks, so do not match OEM precisely. Not
as much green as I would have liked.

Layed down an adhesion promoter on the bare plastic. Then shot with Spray Max
2K Primer. Very nice stuff, thick and forgiving. Covered sanding scratches
nicely.

I used one can of the Glamour High Clear, more than enough, in fact too much,
which is why I went overboard on the color. Next time I spray an 89 I will
only do two coats and let it dry for color match before proceeding. It takes
about 4 minutes per fairing to scuff and then reshoot another layer if needed.

I did the entire fairings, back half of one front fender, a small spot on a
mirror, couple 5 x 7" areas on the brake covers, and the bolt sides of the Wong
Wing.

Knowing what I know now, I would use the 2 cans for the base coat, 1 can for the
mid, and 2/3rds can of the Glamour High Gloss. I had small amounts of material
left over, just in case. Pot life on the mixed 2K stuff is from 12 hours to
4 days.

I also got a product called Blenz-In to spray the edges of the spot painting for
blending. But that didn't work, as I have tape lines that will have to be
sanded out with 1200P, 1500P and 2000P paper. I might be able to get by with
wet sanding using 800P.

I checked the color match this morning and the clear has definately made it
slightly darker than OEM. Hoping polishing will help that some.

the Spray Max 2K primer and 2K Glamour High Gloss clear in the same system.

difference. Then I went and did a "rookie" thing, I added a couple of extra
coats of clear and darkened it so the color match is slightly off from OEM.
