LED conversion difficulties
Written by douglasvanb on 2/12/2012 at 05:19 am

Hello Coasters,

Thanks to a very frugal December (who needs to eat?!), I purchased LED
replacement bulbs for every single bulb on my PC800. Over the last several days
I installed all of the bulbs. The new bulbs look great and are as bright if not
brighter than the stock bulbs. I'm quite happy with them.

As you expected from the title, there is a catch. The stock flasher relay won't
blink with all-LED turn signal bulbs. I have been trying various flasher relays
that are supposedly rated for the very low loads LEDs generate but so far I
haven't found anything that makes the bike's turn signals flash correctly. At
this point I'm actually a little worried that I might have fried the
self-canceling turn signal control unit.

I know we've talked about this very issue several times over the last few years
and the group has discussed it prior to when I first purchased my Pacific Coast.
However, I couldn't find any exact directions on what to buy or build in order
to make the lights blink correctly. (Note that I don't want to put resistors
into the circuits.)

Is there anyone on the board who has successfully done this conversion and could
tell me what flasher unit I should use?

Thanks in advance!

Douglas
