LED conversion difficulties
Written by douglasvanb on 2/12/2012 at 09:22 pm

Kyle,

Thank you for the link. I am going to give that company a call on Monday to see
what they think.

It appears that I might have toasted my self-cancel turn signal control unit
(the thing buried inside of the steering stem). I've got another unit handy
that I can test with but I don't feel like blowing up $400 rather than just $200
worth of hard-to-find electrical equipment...

Incidentally, I found this link:
http://webpages.charter.net/bpeloquin/V65_flasher.html

Now I am debating if I should damn the torpedoes and go full-speed ahead on
converting the bike to using an Arduino to run the blinkers or if I should
switch the other self-cancel unit into the bike and put the incandescent bulbs
back in until I can figure out a better way that won't blow out more electronics
or cost me more money. I suppose I could also use a few latching relays and not
have self-canceling signals for a while...

If I did get an Arduino, I would be well positioned to build my own cruise
control system as I would already have 1/5 of the signals that I would need.
Hmm...

Decisions, decisions!

Cheers!

Douglas

in place of a resistor. Here is a web page example (not endorsing this web page

I installed all of the bulbs. The new bulbs look great and are as bright if not
brighter than the stock bulbs. I'm quite happy with them.

won't blink with all-LED turn signal bulbs. I have been trying various flasher
relays that are supposedly rated for the very low loads LEDs generate but so far
I haven't found anything that makes the bike's turn signals flash correctly. At
this point I'm actually a little worried that I might have fried the
self-canceling turn signal control unit.

years and the group has discussed it prior to when I first purchased my Pacific
Coast. However, I couldn't find any exact directions on what to buy or build in
order to make the lights blink correctly. (Note that I don't want to put
resistors into the circuits.)
