LED conversion difficulties
Written by douglasvanb on 2/13/2012 at 07:57 pm

Alfred,

With respect to the T10 wedge-style base bulbs that are in the center license
plate/ tail light position and behind every gauge in the instrument cluster, the
bulbs I found (and linked to in a previous post) save 4 watts per bulb (if you
believe the manufacturers). There are 11 bulbs of that style on a stock PC800.
That adds up to big savings fast if extra watts are what you're going for.

Two years ago when I first looked into converting to LED, the bulbs on the
market weren't acceptable. They've improved quite a bit since then. In another
two years I bet they'll be even better. Have you looked around recently to see
what you can source domestically? There might be a better option that is red
for your tail lights. The ones I got for the brake lights were red. I had to
settle for a white T10 bulb for the tail light/license plate bulb though. Can't
have everything :-)

Cheers!

Douglas

bought them on e-bay.

with lots of white light shining downwards and red light up front. Do not bather
this bulb but replace it with a clean conventional one (they will turn black on
the inside long before they burn out). After-all an LED light is not completely
without load either and in only one such small bulb there is not a lot to gain.
