front tire leaks air quickly
Written by gibinmich on 3/26/2012 at 12:32 am

I've had two front stems crack on two different PCs. I lucked out and limped
home both times. Plug kits don't do much good when a stem cracks. Replace them
if you don't know how old they are. Make sure you have stem clips also. I think
super glue can be used for a temporary fix?

the wheel. Just break the bead with a C clamp, cut the old stem off on the
outside and catch the piece on the inside before it falls into the tire. (It
helps if you have 3 hands.) Then push the new stem through from the inside and
pull till it seats. Neither new stems nor new tires are what they used to be.
Don't know a solution for tires, but you can get all metal stems, which seems
the smart way to go.

Honda dealer usually has the part in stock. I replace mine every 3-4 years now
because that rubber ages just like the tire ages.

a half hour. You'll need to rig some blocks to support the front but before
removing the wheel, get some soapy water and find the leak. You can fix a simple
nail hole with a cheap plug kit (which I keep in the trunk as part of my
emergency kit).

I noticed the front tire was almost flat and gave it air. The air gauge shows
the needle dropping down right after filling it up indicating a rather fast leak
somewhere. I dont think I am going to be able to drive it anywhere so I will
have to take off the front tire to have it looked at and repaired. The tread is
still good and everything was fine when I parked it in the shed 5 months ago. Is
taking off the front tire very difficult and how much time does it take?
