HID Light Installation
Written by douglasvanb on 4/18/2012 at 04:12 pm

Hi Wade,

I got the single 35 watt hi/low motorcycle kit. With shipping it came out to
about $50. There is only one (digital) ballast. The filament itself is moved
by a solenoid to change from hi to low beam.

I chose to go with the 35 watt kit rather than 55 watt because I want to use the
extra watts for heated gear and other farkles. If you aren't hanging tons of
extra things off of your electrical system, the 55 watt shouldn't be an issue.

Still haven't had the chance to run the bike at night (it's raining and feels
like winter again in Oregon). When I finally get a break in the weather and my
workload, I'll line my two PC800s up side-by-side to compare between the stock
bulb and the HID kit.

Cheers!

Douglas

that you got the single hi/low kit for $40. Did you get the 35W version or the
55W version?

work with 2 ballasts. However, the kit only comes with 1 ballast. If you select
the 55W option +$7.50 does that get you 2 ballasts so that your light runs 35W
low and 55W high?

quite good. Next time I might go for a more blue-colored bulb. The yellow
color came out more green than I was expecting but will work for now. A short
write-up is available here:
