I wonder if the person you talked to really knew what he was talking about. If the compound is the same it certainly doesn't make any difference where it is made. My son tells me there has been a lot of discussion about this on ADV rider and the claim is that some chemical that keeps rubber soft is no longer legal to use. That has certainly been consistant with my experience. I've seen 5 year old tires and valve stems with more cracks in the rubber than 10 year old ones. I'll see if my son can point me to the posts that he's read. I just mounted a rear Metzler this afternoon and I think it said made in Germany. Actually, you might get a better tire from Indonesia or Cambodia because they have fewer environmental regulations than more developed countries.
