Re: PC800: clutch slipping
Written by Tim Davies on 3/6/2019 at 01:28 pm

I had clutch slippage years ago on my current 98 which I bought used. To save money I tried just putting in new springs and sanding the plates that have the friction material on them. It worked for a year I think then started slipping again. I ended up buying all new plates and another set of springs.
Save yourself time and effort and replace with new parts the first time.
PS- in the early part of this century there were a few Coasters recommending just replacing the springs with stuffed ones… big mistake! Those that did, found the lever pressure so high it was a hand killer (especially so in stop and go traffic)
