Electrical issue
Written by dmc42421 on 8/13/2002 at 09:09 pm

Have my '90 PC800 for three weeks. One problem has surfaced. I am
riding along and bike starts sputtering and coughing. I did not
recoginze this as electrical issue at the time (I do now remember the
tach going wacky, though). Anyway, I nursed it back to smooth
running by throttling it back and forth lightly. I thought "bad gas"
or something similar.
A week later, the same thing happened on the highway except the
electrical system went dead. I opened the trunk and got something
out. When the trunk snapped closed the electrical came up again. I
got it home but was unable to duplicate the problem, except that one
time it wouldn't start even with the electrical looking in order. I
pressed the starter and the electrical went totally dead only to come
alive again after .
Two nights ago, I left the key in and the light on and the battery
was dead. I "recharged" the battery but could get only solenoid click.
Jump starting got it going right away and it worked OK for a 12 mile
test. Upon return, and turning the engine off, electrical stayed
dead - not weak - dead.
Any usual suspects to be investigated before taking to a dealer? If
not simply a bad battery, I was thinking "on-off switch" or "side
stand switch off" switch as possibly being intermittent.

If you read this, thanks for your patience.
