New Reid Rack -- Discussion and Progress
Written by dlandsberger2 on 10/24/2004 at 09:23 pm

Let me weigh in on this one since I'm the one that's attempting to
make the rack with Leland. I guess my ability to produce highway
peg brackets is now going to put me into the custom part
manufacturing business -- something I will enjoy!

I understand that mounting a rack to the seat bolts would make for a
more robust rack -- but I this rack is basically available from Givi
now - though I understand that it may/or may not, work with the
backrest.

The Reid design is easy to make, and fine for small loads. I am
contemplating a new and improved "grid" for the platform, as well as
reinforced brackets that might be be stronger than the ones currently
made. In addition the rack we're designing will be made from steel
instead of aluminum, and coated with a glossy UV resistant coating
that will look as good as the coating on the highway peg brackets
(for those who got a set).

I'm hoping to be able to make this rack for substantially under $75
complete - which would be a good addition to any bike I would
think. I have some prototype grids now, and hope to have a
prototype rack within a week or two to post pictures on the site for
you to look at.

Since my last ride was at best disappointing (see Philly Fall
Ride/Bike Down post) at least I can do something fun by making this
stuff.
