I think you may be underestimating what this rack can be used for.

I have pictures at Yahoo of my PC loaded with my camping gear from our
spring Mountain Motorcycle Camping Trip from 2 years ago. Between the
back seat, the backrest and the Reid rack, the back end of the bike is
loaded. You can't even see the Reid rack (or the backrest) because they
are buried under my gear. I hauled that load between 2 and 300 miles
over the mountains and back without a problem; that's 400 to 600 miles
round trip.

I hauled that same load on a 600 mile camping trip the year before.
That's 1200 miles round trip with no problems.
