Headlight Question
Written by RSpar43 on 6/28/2001 at 02:11 am

Hi All;

Well, its finally happened, the headlight on my '90 just burned
out after only 11 years and 62000 miles! In 1995 TWO dashlights
burned out and the centerstand bolt got loose and I had to tighten
it. Oh yes, and I broke a speedometer cable ... guess I have a LEMON
for a PC.

Seriously, A while back I purchased a PIAA Platinum HID Super
White H4 headlamp (phew!) replacement bulb 60/55 watt. I was talking
with someone at the Honda Hoot and he told me that it might be too
hot to use in the plastic housing of a PC headlamp. Any thoughts on
this would be appreciated. Secondly, he told me how they worked, and
as a result of their physics and chemistry you might not be able to
use a headlight modulator on them. He didn't say it wouldn't work
but he said it would or could shorten their life. BTW I was using a
KISAN headlight modulator when the old bulb blew out. Guess I'm
actually asking several questions:
1. Are these HID super whites really too hot for the housings?
2. Are these HID super whites really that much better?
3. Can you use a headlight modulator on one of these bulbs?
4. Do headlight modulators in general shorten bulb life?
5. Do I have a lemon for a PC?

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
