No blasphemy (but close :-). I definitely disagree. Is it nice to be
able to carry your suitcases into the room? Yes, as long as they are
clean, but often they are caked in mud, dirt, bugs and assorted road
grime. Then it is not so nice. Much better to open the trunk
(nothing falls out) pull the clean, dry soft bags and carry them in
just as easily, no fumbling with latches (one on each side) while
taking them off (or putting them back on). And, if you decide to ride
out for dinner after unloading, you still have all that room
available for your jacket/helmet/ souvenirs, etc. where as with a
saddlebag system you would have to put them back on after emptying them.

Convenience? The trunk rules.
