Clutch Replacement
Written by rudyg1937 on 12/28/2008 at 10:38 pm

My 1998 PC currently has 45k+ on it and I noticed during redline
shifts, especially 2-up, the clutch was slipping. Not being one to
wait for total failure I ordered all new OEM plates and some heavier
springs. I asked the dealer for something other than Barnett and he
got me some from KG Clutch Factory.

These things look and feel quite heavy compared to stock and I plan on
testing the clutch pull force between my 94 and the 98 after I finish
this swap.
It appears all I probably needed was the springs. I pulled the clutch
and the only 2 plates darkened at all are the front and back 2 plates
which are different than the rest and probably take more of the
slipping load. They still look good. The rest of the plates look
brand new and are still brown in color. If anybody wants them speak up
and yu can have them for shipping as I am not about to tear the clutch
apart and not change the plates.
I have taken some pictures of the job which I will post. The best part
is you don't have to remove the fairing.
