Car Tire on the back-2nd season
Written by shotcoy on 4/25/2010 at 11:42 pm

It seems we now have at least 4 people running the BFGoodrich P155/80R15 TA
Radial on the rear of their PC800's. These include:
Dave "YT" Hoover(aka-shotcoy)- Ashland, OH
Wade Brezina(aka- wbpc800)- New Richmond, WI
Dean Corbella(aka- chorizoneggs)- Santa Cruz, CA
Steve(aka- dixiepup2)- Ohio??
Nobody from the East coast or southern US has yet to give it a try. I'm going
out on a limb and "guesstimating" there will be 12 coasters running this setup
by the end of the year.
I have now put about 8,000 miles on this rear tire setup since last May. It
sure works good for me. For more on this subject visit post # 85431 & 88612(or
search shotcoy).
I hope to make it to the MOVE 2010 ride in Parkersburg, WV and SE Ohio on May
22. I should be able to make it from here in about 2.5 hours. This will be my
first regular event.
As always, enjoy fun & safe riding!!
Dave "YT" Hoover

Hey, don't count out us Southeasterners. I have too many miles left on my Metzeler ME880 to just replace it as a novelty, but it will happen. Robert Atlanta, GA area --- In

You guys go ahead. I'm kinda mixed about this. Not to start the debate again, but I might try that with a cruiser but a bit nervous about it on a PC. Dunlop K555s aren't that expensive, anyway. ________________________________

I was only speaking for myself and I am old enough to not ask permission. The Goodrich tire should get more miles and cost is about $65.00 to $70.00. Good enough for me. --- In

I admit I have a ct on my bike. I only have 3K miles but looks like no wear at all. Here's my mini report. Excellent wet performance no slipping on the wide arrow paint. Why do they put that on long sweeping corners? If you know Highwa

No, it would be too wide to fit. A 145/80-15, 155/80-15 and possibly a 165/80-15 are the sizes of car tires that will work. Basically you are putting a tire that fits the Old Volkswagen Beetles on the rear of your motorcycle. Semi tall and narrow.

Re: Car Tire on the back-2nd season
The quick reply is no.  And the 89 needs a different tire than the later models due to restrictions in the fender.  I think your size is 155/80-15 (later 155/90-15), but you'll have to look in the archives to be sure.  Also, darksi

If you take a look at M/C tires and car tires, they are designed differently for obvious reasons. There are a very few riders that do the "darkside" option, and they even have a recommended ti

45 is not a distance.....it is the ratio of sidewall height to nominal tire width......

Re: Car Tire on the back-2nd season
How could it be too when it is 145 which is how wide the tire is and the 65 is the distance from the rim to the top of the tire and the 15 is the size of the rim or inner diameter of the tire . So what the heck.

Interesting, I know there are people (my self) that would welcome going down an inch. But, steering geometry, scraping of pegs, etc will be affected.

Robert,I am using the BFG 155/80R15 on my '96 PC with no issues.  The BFG is 24.7 inches in diameter & 6.1 inches wide.  Looking up the 145/65R15 I see 22.4 inches diameter & 5.7 inches wide.  The stock Dunlop is 24.17

Add me to the list there. Been using a BFG on my 98 with primarily heavy stop and go commuting year round here in Portland, Oregon. Around 15k on it already. Hardly any wear on it. Works great. I do believe the markedly improved rear braking ability
