...horn upgrade suggestions?Written by douglasvanb on 4/28/2010 at 05:01 amThere are two options that I know of that are both relatively painless. They
both do require a tiny bit of work though.
1) Add a low-tone horn to the empty mounting bracket. Somewhere in the files or
links there is a description of how to do it and the part number to order (or
maybe that was a recent post here...)
2) Buy a Stebel Nautilus Compact Motorcycle Airhorn (amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/Stebel-Nautilus-Compact-Motorcycle-Horn/dp/B000NPRTII )
and install it either in parallel or as the only horn for your bike. There is a
PDF in the files section with a good install guide.
I just installed a Stebel horn on my bike over the weekend. My first "victim"
came along just as I was cleaning up my tools. One of the guys that lives in my
house asked me what I was doing. I told him to push the horn button to find
out. He nearly jumped out of his skin when that little air horn sounded. I
suppose that prank is a modification on the age-old "pull my finger" prank.
The low tone horn is the easier installation (less wires) but I don't think it
will get as much attention as the more complex (you have to run a few wires and
such. Not that hard if I can do it though!) and very LOUD Stebel option.
Now if only our bikes had more power, I'd put some trumpets off of a semi truck
on my bike. :-)
Does anyone know of other options? I'd love to get together a list of
possibilities for my links page.
