...horn upgrade suggestions?
Written by douglasvanb on 4/28/2010 at 03:12 pm

I agree that generally if you have enough time to use the horn in most car vs
motorcycle situations, you have enough time to get out of the way. Certainly if
there's enough time for a one-fingered salute, there's enough time to back off.
However, I found myself in several other situations in the last few months where
a LOUD horn would have been useful.

The most comical was when I came around a corner on a back road and found a dog
laying in the middle of the road. I stopped, revved my engine, and honked at
him. He kept on sleeping (not dead nor hit). I had to very gingerly pick my
way around him (big dog, small road) to continue on my way.

Almost equally comical was when I saw some deer ahead of me on a long straight
stretch on a similar back road. I slowed down and stopped, honked at them,
yelled, etc... They looked at me funny and went back to doing whatever it is
that deer do in the middle of the road. It took me slowly advancing on them
(less than 5mph with my feet down) and just about bumping into them before they
decided they should amble off the road. I imagine a loud horn would have helped
at least a little in this situation.

But really I want an air horn to scare the drunken college students that stumble
around in town at all hours of the day and night ;-)

bike also and the first time I hit the horn on the PC I was amazed at how loud
it was in comparison! I guess on the police bikes if you needed the horn you
just blipped the siren.

find the turn signal. Usually at 5 in the morning when I'm getting ready to
leave. I've seen people put airhorns on their bikes and I just wonder why
bother. If you have time to hit your horn, you have time to get out of the way.
You did the right thing by backing off. Sometimes hitting the horn just causes
more problems than it's worth in my opinion.

possible.
