petcock rebuild kit from K&L
Written by lcshepp on 6/17/2010 at 04:32 am

Hi Douglas,

(Thanks for the part number, Fred!)

One thing to be careful of the Honda kit: It is for another bike so the
spring is shorter than the stock spring. Just use all of the parts from
the kit and use the old spring from your PC petcock.

Then it will work fine.

FYI...

Is anyone else having troubles getting a petcock rebuild kit at the moment? I've run into a few sellers who are out of stock. One seller on ebay told me that K&L has them on backorder and expects to release a shipment of them in a month

I did mine a few months ago (March?) and this was the story I got from one place on Ebay. Sirris? or something like that. I found a bunch of other places that had the same kit they had listed for the PC listed on Ebay for other bikes. Cycle G

Hi Douglas, Have you tried the Honda rebuild kit? Part number for it is out there on the ipcrc site... And I think the price was fairly close to the K&L item... (Correct me I'm wrong, someone...) Leland -- Leland Shep

The Honda kit number for a kit that has the necessary parts is #16953-ME5-015. Fred --- In ipcrc@yahoogroups.com

Thanks Fred and Leland! Wasn't aware that an OEM kit existed. Mother Honda knows best about these things. :-) Douglas --- In

Douglas, The kit is for another bike but it has the parts necessary to rebuild the PC valve. There are extra parts such as a cover that aree not used and the spring is different, use the one in the PVC. Fred --- In

Just looked that up on Service Honda's Parts Fiche and they say -025 is the superseded part# For what it's worth.. Kevin '96 PC800 --- In

Kevin, That is the second part number change, -005, -015, and now -025. Honda must be trying to get a standard set of parts in the sets or are eliminating unnecessary items such as the new cast cover which would save them money. Fred

Same problem here. 3 eBay orders, all came back out of stock, all 3 rebated my money. I am surprised that someone would put an item up on eBay when they don't actually have the thing in stock. --- In
