Choke cable replacement--HELP!
Written by ascterransin on 6/18/2010 at 01:52 pm

You may have already taken care of your problem, but here's some reference
photos just in case they would still help. I'll ditto what Phil said- having the
carbs loose is much easier to handle the cable fittings.

housing off. The Service Manual section 5-4 shows a good picture. I found it
easier to remove the carb before removing and replacing the choke cable so I
could turn the carb and get a better angle at the nuts that hold the ends of the
choke cable to the carbs.

be useful to have an open ended wrench or one of those sockets that are used for
oxygen sensors that will go over a cable. There is a small spring on each
connector to the carb so watch for that when you get the nut loosened up. I
don't remember exactly how the cable ends connected, but it was pretty obvious
once you had the old one removed.

to R&R the cable after that. Still idling/running rough though. I haven't ridden
it much over the last 4 yrs. since I picked up the GL so I have a few more
things to check out, clean, & possibly change.... I had a spare air filter so I
changed that out while I was at it too.

'96, but can't seem to remove the old cable. The two cable ends seem to be
attached inside the carb and don't want to force them out. Plus, how do the new
ones attach??
