Problems with my PC
Written by obijuanak on 7/14/2010 at 10:45 pm

Bravo,

You will find varnish deposits in (and you will have to remove and clean):

Fuel tank
Fuel Filter
Fuel Lines
Carburetor bowls and jets

The worst part will be removing the fuel tank, because it is buried in there.

You probably won't need new carburetors, but you might need new jets and
gaskets.

Because the bike sat literally for 20 + years, the rubber is old and brittle, so
you will more than likely need to change the diaphragm for the fuel valve
(petcock) and the rubber vacuum bellows for each carburetor. On the plus side,
maybe the carburetor isolators might be OK since they have not been subject to
constant heat cycles.

It is a good opportunity to replace all the hoses and o-rings, including brake
lines, as well as tires. (Out of curiosity, did your bike come with the Dunlop
K555s or K177s?)

Electrical contacts are probably corroded. cleaning/lubricating is in order.
DEFINITELY a fresh oil/filter change.

The battery you used is undersized. You need a 12BS (8Ah vs 10Ah). Is it
sealed?

It will take some effort, but your PC will ride again.
