The majority of exhaust sound exits to the rear of the bike,so if the bear heard
it, you would probably have already passed him. Ride Safe..

?the only instance when I do believe that "Loud Pipes Save Lives". I am seriously considering a loud pipe for Darth Marmot, my DR650, for when we head out into bear country =8-O http://bears.

I am a member of ABATE (bike rights org), most members ride HDs and here in FL do so without helmet. I, the plastic bike rider, have nice quite pipes and a helmet. I don't get any flack at all about the helmet, but I do about the pipes.

My coworkers are all looking at me like I'm crazy for laughing out loud in the middle of the office. Thanks for a good mental image, Mike. I'm going to have to do that the next time I go for a ride with one of my "loud pipes save lives"

I run a set of Vance and Hines drag pipes on my 98 Honda VT1100T but I also wear ear plugs to muffle the sound alittle. Seems to work in the theory that loud is safer. Not been attacked by any wild critters but one ol lady did shake her fist

Sounds like the old adage" if a tree falls in the woods does anyone hear it...." how would you know if a bear ever heard your noisy motorcycle and ran, or not??? LOL stay safe out there. --- In

The problem I have is I hate a lot of noise when I am out hiking in the woods. I can go to a lot of places that I don't have to walk to to hear load bikes. I want to hear the bear so I know which way not to go. Not have the load bike chase t

Panthers and Cougars are know to attack from the rear so some loud pipes just might save your life. (: --- In ipcrc@yahoo

Juan, you need to move to a state where the humans out number the critters. I wonder if they make a bear whistle similar to the deer whistles? I have heard that they really DO work!(; --- In

Natures critters love noise. This makes me think of the Jack Links commercial where they wake up Sasquatch and he reaks revenge on them. A dumb grizz should not be a problem(; --- In
