Thanks Gib, but I think I'll take my chances with the critters, they are more
predictable ;-)

As for the whistles, we do sell bells to hikers to attach to their belts or
walking sticks along with a can of pepper spray. The theory is the same, if they
hear you coming from a distance, you won't surprise them and they won't show you
their displeasure. We also hand them a small guide on identifying bear signs.
You know you found black bears if their scat is full of grass, twigs and
berries. You know you have a grizzly if their scat contains bells, walking
sticks and smell like pepper. :-D
