Engine cutting out--AGAIN
Written by pgboyd on 7/27/2010 at 10:21 am

Emmett,

I don't recall what has already been recommended but some things to consider:

Sidestand switch may be cutting out on you sporadically. Easy to check and
replace if that is the problem.
Bad fuel or tank trash may have some specks hitting your carbs - if you've
already drained and replaced the fuel, fuel filter and Seafoamed the heck out of
it I apologize for not remembering.
Fuel pump may be acting up - see the manual to check the flow rate.
Ignition switch may have a short that you only see occasionally at speed? Try
wiggling the key around while you are sitting on the bike at idle and see if it
is loose or dies.
Run/Stop switch may be going bad.
CDI may be going bad.
Carbs may need a good cleaning - floats and seat should be checked to make sure
you're getting the right blend of fuel/air.

Good luck.

again, twice. I was able to recover the engine by pulling in the clutch,
letting the engine slow down for 5-8 seconds then revving the engine three short
revs then letting the clutch out. It was almost like I cleared the carbs or
something. Still a mystery, hopefully tomorrow will clean K&N air filter and
check the carbs( I have no idea what to do to them) and maybe change the oil.
It almost seems like when under load something happens and I correct it by
pulling in the clutch, free wheel for seconds and then restart.
