Haven't done a HID but did install a Eastern Beaver headlight relay kit to raise
the voltage at the headlight. A bit shorter life but more lumens without too
much more heat. At the same time we replaced the H4 bulb with a Philips
Motovision H4 unit. Webbikeworld has a review of the E/B relay set at

The USA magazine Motorcycle Consumer News also reviewed both items a bit back
and liked them.
