Thinking about going to the Dark Side1
Written by mlmiller1959 on 9/18/2010 at 05:31 pm

Having taken my PC down more than one dirt road, I don't think any tires will
solve the problem.? 640 pounds of MC off-road is way less than ideal.? Also not
being able to see the front wheel is a bummer for me.? On rough roads, the PC's
plastic rattles and shakes like nobody's business.? I don't think a lot of off
road is good for it.

BFGoodrich TA Radial P155/80R15? is what is consistently mentioned here. I am
thinking about the switching over off-season as well, but haven't done so yet,
so I can not speak from personal experience.

Never heard of someone switching specifically for the purpose of being
off-pavement, but I am sure lots will end up chiming in this thread.? Haven't
had a good Dark-side post for, ... ah ... at least a couple of days, maybe even
a week. Starting to go in withdrawal.

I know a few of you PC'ers have already gone dark side, I want to find out which tire is everyone using. I need more traction in the gravel and dirt where I like to go! Slipped the other day on some green moss while crossing a shallow 2 inch

Tim if Tuppie could talk, it would tell you that Dunlop 555s don't work very well off road either. (: "I know nothing!" --- In

OK Tim....I've cooked you up a good "fix" with a new tool. I bought a tire tread measurement tool/gauge today. Measured my BFG P155/80R15's tread depth at 5/32". That is after 16,250 miles on the back of my PC. New tread depth

Seems like a downside might be not lubing the rear splines often enough. I think you should still pull that wheel and lube those splines every 8K (IMHO). Keith '97 "Fat Lady" --- In

I don't know what Honda recommends for rear spline grease jobs but I grease mine every time I change a rear tire, about 15000 miles. There is still plenty of grease on the splines at 15,000. I have never heard of anyone having issues with rea

Thanks Dave for the "fix". I am pretty serious about Dark-siding over the off-season. If I do, I will try to document in detail my experience and any riding differences I notice. I think this might be of interest, particularly to ne
