25000 miles later on the VT1100 experiment
Written by goldwingman40 on 9/29/2010 at 09:35 pm

Anton,
I sure don't see any advantage. My bike consistantly averages about 45 mpg (43
to 48 and as high as 54) weather in the mountain twisties or on the eway from
60 to 85mph and I didn't lose any performance because of the lower diff ratio
with no extra work. The engine does not have any problems running the stock rpm
all the way up to 75k. Just look at the results Leland has had with all his
bikes.
Fred

always been. The VT1100 gearing gives a consistent 45mpg, and that's with no sub
airbox lid and a lot of rejetting, leading to 51hp.

replacement engine in it this winter, as the transmission has been shaky the

the caveat that some rejetting and perhaps some stronger clutch springs would be
a good idea.

if you do many highway miles it extends the mileage and comfort zone 5-7mph,
which is enough here in the SF Bay area to be adequate in traffic.
