Fails to start or turn over
Written by jordan_d_cronin on 10/9/2010 at 03:19 am

Hi,

My PC 800 failed to start after stopping at a gas station today. The strange
thing is that as soon as I hit the starter switch everything turned off. No
lights, nothing. I took the key out and put it back in and turned it but nothing
came back on. After pulling the fuses in the front and inspecting them the
lights came back on when I tried to turn it on. But everything died when I tried
to start it again. After turning the key to the off position and back on the
lights came back, but not the 3rd time. After pulling the fuses again (this time
I pulled the main 30amp fuse) the lights came back on when I turned the key. At
this point I just wanted to get home so I push started it in 2nd gear and it
started right up. Basically whenever I hit the starter switch everything stops
working and the starter doesn't crank.

Any ideas? The battery is only a few months old. The bike was wrecked several
months ago but I fixed it and have been riding it the last few months. The only
possible electrical problem I am aware of is that the blinkers blink quickly.
(I'm not sure if it is too fast or not.)

Jordan, Check the battery, that is how it acts when you have a broken connection inside the battery. The voltage can check good no load, it may or may not carry a low load but will not carry a high load and arcs inside at the broken connectio

I just had a very similar problem. Put a new Yuasa battery in last June to replace a 4-year-old Walmart battery. The Walmart battery was not bad, but I wanted peace of mind for a 10-day trip around Lake Superior. I remember I was a bit surpri

Internal battery fault was EXACTLY what happened to me. When turning on the bike, lights, everything worked, but when I hit the starter, nothing. I had a volt meter attached to the battery and, by chance, noticed that when I hit the starte

You guys are the best! Thank you for the quick responses. I think you are spot on. I tested the battery with a volt meter and the voltage went to around 3 volts when I tried to start it. I took it back to Batteries Plus and they tested it
