High/Low beam switch and Run/Stop switch

The High/Low beam switch and Run/Stop switch on my 1989 PC800 don't have any
paint in the engraved letters. Is this the way it came when new, or has the
paint worn off?

If the paint has worn off, is there a recommended paint that will work to fill
in the letters?
