Cam seal replacement

My 98 appears to have developed the dreaded Cam Seal oil leak. My mechanic says
that it is a huge job to replace them on this engine. Aparently you have to pull
the top cover off of the engine and it is very difficult and time consuming. I
advised him that I didn't think it was such a large job and he said he was going
by other similar engines but would look at the PC before making an estimate. By
looking in the archives I see that several members have done it themselves. Has
anyone written up a procedure? Any advice? Alas the clutch is also going so
that is why it is at the mechanic's and I thought I'd get the oil lead fixed at
the same time.
