Doing the hotwire mod and have a question
Written by unlikelylogi... on 10/19/2010 at 02:23 am

Mark,

Try holding a bright penlight against the connector. You ought to be able to
see where the tab is lurking.

Have a look at the top right diagram on this drawing:

You can see a small tab projecting down from the contact that locks it into the
body of the connector. IIRC, it is easiest to release the contacts on the R/R
connector by going in through the face of the connector with a very small flat
screwdriver and prying the tab up just enough to allow the contact to slip out.
You may need to bend the tab back down to ensure that it engages properly when
reassembled.

Doing the hotwire mod and have a question
I have the plug off the R/R and can't figure out how to remove the wires from the plug. Does the plastic plug split somehow or do I have to force the terminals from the opposite and wiggle them out? Mark

Could I just use a couple of these and splice above the connector? http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Splice-Connector-16-14-Gauge/dp/B003L9KWQ4 Seems easier. -

To remove the connectors you have to use a VERY small screw driver to relieve a locking clip of the plastic. The little clip/finger is part of the plastic and locks the spade terminal into place. Really easy once you can see/relieve it/them.

Thanks all for the advice! Seth, the illustration REALLY helps. I'm planning on working on the mod tonight. My Chinese R/R is at the post office, picking it up tonight. Will complete the mod first and test, then I'll replace the R/R. I'll pos

I decided to do the reverse and change out the R/R, go for a ride and get results, then do the mod. Well the new R/R is installed (no mod) and I'm getting some curious results. I now have the dreaded upside down voltage issue to some degree.

Hey Mark, Don't confuse your readings with the "dreaded uside down voltage readings) with proper operation. The "dreaded" issue is when it's reading 14 to 15 volts at idle and 12.9 at higher speeds. What you are seeing is the b
