Strange VIN number
Written by lcshepp on 10/30/2010 at 06:17 pm

Hi Daniel,

Do any/some/all of the European countries subscribe to the 17 character
"base" (for lack of a better term) VIN that is used in North America?
Same construction? Interesting, if so.

When the PC came out, I'm pretty sure that was NOT the case. The
European PCs (and the Japanese models) that I know about just have the
serial number stamped on the steering head and NO tag over the radiator
as is the case here and in Canada. They show the RC34 Honda model
designation and then the 1 (Japan, California) or 2 (Canada, Europe),
the relative year of manufacture and the serial number. There are a
number of Japanese models in the UK that follow that pattern and the
French/Italian models that I'm aware of do so as well...
