Strange VIN number
Written by dl_page on 10/30/2010 at 07:03 pm

Actually I believe that the VIN structure is more or less an ISO standard, the
first three letters are the country and manufacturer code (in France,
VF1=Renault, VF3=Peugeot, VF2/7=Citro?n, followed by 5 or 6 characters defining
fuel type, body style and number of doors and then the serial number and that's
all I can remember from my decode program. I'll have to have a look and see if I
can find any old source code of this thing in any of my old archives, and put it
on my website one day!

You are right though in the dates, and that is somthing that I forget, that even
though VIN codes were about since about 1993 I believe, the EEC (or at least
France) only started using the VIN code rather than just using the commercial
make/model/type data + serial number in about 1998, so this could explain a few
things...

I'm going to take the tupperware off the bike tomorrow to install a few gadgets,
so I'll grab the data off the frame and see what it says...
