looking at a '90 PC

That is fantastic Marc. Most of the bike loose oil a bit. Mine does that
sometimes. A newspaper underneath and problem solved (it can still be the
oilfilter that is leaking). The clutch cylinder is a common cause but should be
maintained anyhow, like the brakes. There are solutions like additive (Xeramic
Oil Stop) and fluid gasket material for the cam seals. The point here is: the
owner can not add to the value of this bike because he maintained the bike that
good. There are many with less millage. When the bike was kept in a very dry,
central heated garage there can be more rubbers being dried out and the owner
knows. You talk about huge numbers here. 500 off? Is this thing gold plated... A
reasonable price here in The Netherlands would be 1500 dollar or 1000 euro. In
the US this is much higher but do let yourself get carried away. You do not only
have the fun but also the costs for an older bike. A possible way out would be
the expertise and report of another, more experienced owner or a look at it from
a garage. Offer it for sale there and you both have a free opinion about the
real price. From a distance I advice you not to focus on the oil leak to much
but to feel and turn the fork with your hands from left to right, look if the
bike is straight, inspect the back part of the frame by looking up, the muffler
for being rusty and the brake disks for extensive wear (4 mm) and cracks (please
feel the whole side of the rim with your finger) Bad brakes can make one of the
forks black, it is amazing what a finger can do. Check the springs and the wheel
bearings by riding some bumps or pushing the springs down when you are at the
bike. This can have a pretty good sound effect inside a garage. Rear tires can
have cracks and be bad when they are Metzlers and were not inflated to the max.
properly, deflating the tire at a gas station and good light can show such
things better and make a good argument against "new" tires. Go for the best or a
low price. Alfred

I know it's about the time for this to happen and it will only get worse with
time requiring a repair.
