Carb Vacuum Pistons
Written by dndgentili on 1/1/2011 at 01:22 pm

No, sorry Phil, those rubbers are NOT supposed to have slits in them. But at
about $90 per carb X 2, it might be worth shipping them back and cutting your
losses.
Sorry. It's real disappointing that these seem to fail so often. I don't think
I ever had this problem on other bikes, but I've worked on several PCs and they
almost all needed replaced.
On another note, I was working on a fellow's 1200 Goldwing and he didn't want to
spend the money so we used rubber cement on them and they seem to work fine for
the couple of years he owned the bike. Another case of, "Ya pays yer money and
takes yer chances", I guess.

rebuilt two sets of PC800 carbs already, but are there supposed to be small
slits in the vacuum piston rubbers? I don't recall seeing them in any of the
previous sets, but the set I just got from eBay has them in both the number 1
and number 2 carbs. They're very small - maybe 1/4 inch long and you can only
see them if you hold the carbs up to the light and flex the rubber slightly. My
curiosity is up because they seem to be very uniformly placed around the bottom
of the rubber where it joins with the piston.

to refund my money if I pay to send the carbs back, but at this point I would be
out about $20 for shipping to recover $60 - plus the time it will take me to put
the carbs back together. These are the dirtiest carbs I have ever seen in my
life.
